Examples
Example 1: Find the HCF of 24 and 36.
Solution:
We can write all the prime factors into the venn diagram for each number.
Prime factors of 24 = 2, 2, 2, 3
Prime factors of 36 = 2, 2, 3, 3
Multiply factors present in the common region of venn diagram to find the HCF.
Factors present in common region = 2, 2, 3.
Therefore, HCF(24, 36) = 12.
Example 2: Find the HCF of 45 and 75.
Solution:
We can write all the prime factors into the venn diagram for each number.
Prime factors of 45 = 3, 3, 5
Prime factors of 75 = 3, 5, 5
Multiply factors present in the common region of venn diagram to find the HCF.
Factors present in common region = 3, 5.
Therefore, HCF(45, 75) = 15.
Example 3: Find the HCF of 34 and 78.
Solution:
We can write all the prime factors into the venn diagram for each number.
Prime factors of 34 = 2, 17
Prime factors of 78 = 2, 3, 13
Multiply factors present in the common region of venn diagram to find the HCF.
Factors present in common region = 2.
Therefore, HCF(34, 78) = 2.
